Transform En-Route with Fair & Lovely BB Cream

I stumbled upon this quote in the newspaper, while having my morning tea. And men, I could not help but laugh so hysterically that I almost spilled some tea on my dress. Well my joy was short lived as I saw the wall clock ticking away to glory. It was ten minutes to nine am. What? 10 minutes to 9:00 am? Gosh I have a meeting planned at office around 9:30 am and have to get ready, reach office and be there - all by 9:30 pm. 

I am running late for work!

Problem statement: I have a crucial presentation and am running late for work

Objective: I need to get ready quickly, look good without make up 

Solution: transform en route

Well they say, a problem known, is a problem half solved. Given my tight work schedules, am always running in jiffy. Also given the fact that I am not a make up person but need to look good as am giving a client presentation, I knew exactly what I needed.

Here's all that I need-

I quickly changed from bathrobe to my formals [Ummm I love Park Avenue], picked my lovely Michael Korr in blue and stuffed rest of the things in this large sized beauty 

Here's my "Getting late for work- transform en route" look-

So, I am ready for work and that corporate presentation, where my work will speak and not my make-up ;)

How I achieved this? Well it was as simple as Tic-Tac-Toe.. yes, you read it right. as simple as Tic-Tac-Toe. My partner in crime is- Fair & Lovely BB cream. Here's a dekko-

Friday Dressing with Fair & Lovely BB Cream

Well I liked this BB Cream and wondered if it is a "one time magic". Given my first impression and to strengthen my observation, I tried it again today with my Friday dressing. Here's the look-

Impressed with performance, here' my review of the product but before that, let me tell you about my experience with BB cream in general.

Haute Kutir's experience with BB Cream[s]

The Kind of Hullabaloo that surrounded BB creams when they were launched in India, made me quite excited on the prospect. I went ahead and bought myself few of them. Frankly the BB cream [s] that I have tried thus far, left me quite unimpressed and uninterested. So when Fair and Lovely launched their new BB cream, I initially chose to give it a miss. 

So last week when I was invited by Fair & Lovely team to meet their team and try their product, I went halfheartedly, expecting to be disappointed like I was with some other high profile products. Well I was anything but not disappointed. It was a live demo appointment wherein I had a tete-a-tete with the brand manager about the product, the concept, and all culminating with trying the product first hand. 

Seeing is believing and never entrust a beauty product with a single usage. Well to substantiate the same, I went ahead and tried the PR samples for couple of days and here's what I felt about the product at large.

Haute Kutir's Review Fair & Lovely BB Cream

Fair & Lovely is known, household name for fairness products in India. The BB cream is indeed promising and geared to take the brand a notch higher in consumer's share of products. Like I said, Initially i was not keen on this product and was about to dismiss it off as another launch but when used, I did liked the same. Hence I am reviewing Fair & Lovely BB Cream and created a unique look with the same.

How to use: Squeeze a pinch of cream on your finger tip- apply as small dots all over your face- using fingertips or a blending foam, blend all over your face in pat and spread motion.

My Skin Type: Combination skin that is dry near the mouth area wherein tends to get oily at other places with few products.

What I Liked about Fair & Lovely BB Cream

1) It simple to use and blends well

2) It works instantly on your skin, forming a good base.

3) A little of it is sufficient

4) It is very mildly fragrance

5) Good Matte finish

6) Does not leave any oily traces or heavy made up feeling on face post application

7) last long

8) Economically priced

9) SPF 15
10) Comes in one Universal tone, hence you may not have to worry about trying different ones. [it can be a disadvantage too]

What I did not liked about it

1) It may not be meant for people with very dry skin. Tendency to accentuate dry patch on your face
2) It comes with foundation that I am not sure if I can use for daily basis.
3) Not suitable for concealing dark circles near eyes

Haute Kutir Verdict: No matter what your profile is, wearing make up everyday is not possible unless you are camera facing. In such cases, the product seems to be promising and makes a good option for regular work wear. It comes in tone quite conducive to Indian Skin tone and the matte finish gives a good cover up. It may not be able to hide blemish successfully as claimed but indeed a simple to use, make up option that makes you look good without actually looking made up. The SPF 15 is mild and good enough for sensitive skin like mine. I would however, always suggest to do a patch test wherein you can apply little cream or any such product for that matter at your hand and check for allergy. 

The product comes in quite a handy and neatly packed rose gold and white tube which makes it easy to carry even in you purse or clutch. I liked the fact that brand put more emphasis on the product than packaging or branding the same. The non greasy and non itchy feel of the product, makes me go for repeated usage. The product is quite better than some widely advertised beauty creams in market and worth your attention/ trial. Go ahead and try the same. we would love to see your feedback here.

Would I buy it again? Yes.

And like we quoted, all the make up in world can never conceal an empty brain. So go ahead and invest your money in buying good books, getting good education rather than splurging on make up when you can look beautiful at lesser price.

A Day at Aquamagica, India' Finest Theme Water Park

It is summertime 

and I care a dime

Sun is maddening

Heat is swine

Too hot a weather

and I need a Respite.

Well if Gabriel were in Mumbai during the Indian Summers, I am sure he too would have sung the same. Well, the bad news is that he is not in Mumbai. However, the good news is that we have something cooler here in Mumbai, err, close by to this "Maximum city".

So when I went to the CCDSummerSlam, a few days back, the emcee asked me a tip from Lifestyle blogger's point of view to combating the Summer Heat. My answer was simple- I would love to soak myself in a fancy looking tub with view to my Television. Oh yes, I am a water baby. And what could be a better way to combat the heat, then soaking yourself in water, all through the day?

Well, water and space in this maximum city are a scarcity. However, wishes were not as wild as horses. For Adlabs, the same co that runs one of the finest leisure parks in India- Imagica, had recently unveiled/ launched their water theme park at Khopoli, Pune. Dream your denizens, it is time to soak the sun.

Aquamagica: It is a water theme park built in the Mykonos Theme from the land of Greece.  It has around 14 kinds of water slides and wave pools including an aqua loop, individual and family slides, natural light effect rides, rattlers and many other aquae based entertainment such as a beachfront, waterfalls, cabanas. Aquamagica promises to be one of the coolest water destinations of India and invites visitors to take a 72-feet plunge in water, daring drops at stimulating slides, laze around in the pool and much more. Not just that, they have a mouth-watering food and beverage options at the park. 

So when Team Aquamagica invited me to come and splurge a day with them, filled with thrilling water rides, followed by relaxation in the cabana set up at this Mykonos themed water park, I heartily agreed. What followed was a beautiful day in the sun and uber cool Aquamagica.

My Experience at Aquamagica

The park management sent us the cabs for pickup and drop. No sooner, did we reached the venue, we were greeted by the efficient teams who helped us board the bus that takes to park from the main gate and also helped us with "express passes" which was pre-loaded with INR 500 to manage our lunch inside. As soon as we reached the venue, we were treated to some amazing cold coffee and welcome drinks, followed by lunch. Express tickets as we all know is kind of "fast entry" tickets given to manage the time while jumping the queue at rides. It comes at a premium cost. I will entail that later in this post including other regulations and to-dos.

Post lunch, we changed into swimming gears and headed towards slides and rides to explore. 

This giant route map came handy and helped us to determine the rides we wanted to take. 

We had limited time, so we stopped calculating and adopted FIFO- First identified, First Onboard, purely on "what excited us most mode". 

We headed towards "twirl whirl". The ride managers escorted people in a group of four after checking all the mandates. Here's a dekko-

Isn't that spectacular? Well, it indeed is quite thrilling. We thought of doing a re-run but then we thought of trying other rides too. [for the video of above, you can check my Instagram page. Link]

As if it was not enough, we headed ahead discovered another swirly-twirly ride. We checked with the instructor and took another plunge at this one, together. This was my first ride at Aquamagica and may be first ever water ride post my accident, I so much loved it. The best part was the way these rides were designed, ergonomic and safe.

We soon headed to the Cabbana area for more rides and water fun. Here're more glimpses from the day at the park-

At the end of it, we moved to the lazy river, also known as "Floatsa", wherein two people can take a tube and swim lazily [float over the long pool water, amid the spurts and occasional spring showers.

Haute Kutir Verdict: Overall, it was indeed a memorable day. We cherished the time spent there, solely based on these aspects-

1) Amazing and multiple water rides that cater to all

2) Best of World Service and support staff

3) Good hospitality, good food.

4) Highly Economical

5) World class structure- 

6) Highly monitored and manned park- Attendants at every slide.

7) Courteous and helpful Staff

8) Clean ambiance; good infrastructure, clean water

Apart from the overall infrastructure and facilities, if there is one thing that is outstanding at Aquamagica is the quality of their staff. Irrespective of high heat, repeated queries and hundreds of visitors, the staff was most well behaved, courteous and watchful. I was so overwhelmed by their sweet nature gave the labor intensiveness of their jobs, I heartily thanked them before leaving and as a token of appreciation, I used all my loaded cash to buy a gift for the "nameless lady" from the changing room who helped me immensely. 

What I did not like- Nothing in particular except that the park is quite far from the city and may discourage frequent visits. Second thing, I think can be improved is- some provision could be made for people with disability so they could also enjoy the rides.  

Will I visit again? surely.

Do I recommend to others? 100%

Drumrolls! Fine dining has found a new address at Hauz Khas, Delhi. With a dual concept of a glasshouse seating arrangement and an open-air seating arrangement [phew I love open air so much]. The good name is- The Project at Park Balluchi.

What is Stay True, Leave an Impression Video is all about?

Well the underlying idea and concept is about two worlds: the world of self-belief and staying true juxtaposed by a world of sycophants with shifting loyalties. There is a surmounting tension between these two worlds, and that is what the brand aim to bring out with their expression of leaving a mark by being yourself, of making it to the top on your own terms.

My Envy Box April 2015 Review

Holla everyone!

I am quite excited to have ordered and received, my first Envy box. Yes, My Envy Box.

This is my first ever Envy Box and if you are wondering why am I posting about it in May, let me tell you that I have requested this box specially last week. Thankfully, the gracious The Envy Box team took my request and sent me a back dated box at such a short notice. You guys won my heart over :)

What's Inside My April Envy Box

I knew the content before hand and hence ordered the box. So there wasn't any surprise element for me in the box.

This is what came inside, in samples-

• Za True White Exfoliating Clay- 30g deluxe sample. This was one of the main reason for me to order The Envy Box  (Full Size Rs.399/- for 100g). I am yet to try this one and review it here too. Stay tuned.
• Avene VHP Dry Touch Emulsion SPF50+- Ok I am not a big fan of anything with SPF >15 as it does not suit my sensitive skin. However, I have heard a lot about Avene and would definitely try their products. Sample size of 5 ml (50 ml @ Rs.1250/-)
• Catrice Longlasting Lip Pencil - It is a Full size product that I received. It is priced at Rs.300/-
• Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream - I just love all things fragrant. This one came in 1.5ml small ampule ( 100 ml is priced at Rs.5700/- ) However I am loving the full size bottle. isn't that cute?
• Kama Ayurveda Rejuvenating and Brightening Ayurvedic Night Cream- [Full size Rs.1195/- for 50g]- Well Never used Kama products as such and not sure if I will try this one. Besides, the sample size is too little and hoped that they would have given a bigger bottle than 2 of them from same range.

About "My Envy Box"

The Envy Box is a monthly beauty subscription box wherein you get around 3-4 product sample from luxury brands every month to try and enforce later usage and purchase [if the products delight you enough]

Haute Kutir Verdict: I love trying out new things and loving the concept of beauty boxes. Though I am not too fond of many currently available beauty boxes in India. As I feel they sell, what are otherwise given for free samples. Besides, I never liked receiving satchels in name of beauty bags. Knowing TEB penchant for sending satchels and my obstinate fascination with tried and tested products, I stayed away. 

However this time it was different. I quite liked this Envy box and hence went out my way asking the team to see if they can send me the back dated box, which they did very gracefully. They not just honored my request for back dated box but also delivered it quite faster. I have opted for COD facility and wasn't charged additionally on same.

The product range is wide and good. I loved the brands they chose to give except for Kama Ayurveda as I have not tried Kama products ever and wonder what they would be like. I will however try to use the ones in the bag this month. The sample size is so small that they may not add impact but I will get to know about allergies, if any.

As you can see, the box came in a lovely, vivacious summer orange color and the overall packaging was good and much in shape during  product delivery. The contents were wrapped inside paper shreds branded with MEB, unlike the previous boxes wherein the products came enclosed in a sheer satin cloth potlis. However I still feel at at Rs 850, it is rather not economical proposition and the brand could do better by including at least one full sized products, totally removing satchel or including bigger [made to order] sized products. The product mix was good.

Overall, I loved this box. I shall share the product review soon.

Steam-It like a Pro with Tupperware

Who said that healthy cannot be delicious and delicious cannot be simple? Whoever said that, may be have not heard about steaming. Well steaming is a simple Technic to good healthy, wholesome food. 

The benefits of steam cooking are -

1) Fast to cook

2) Less Oil Used

3) Keeps the nutrition, color intact

4) Easy to cook

Well if something is so health beneficiary, then it is worth trying and incorporating in daily food routine. All you need is creativity, adaptability and a right device. And what could be better than the brand that millions of households love- Tupperware.

Tupperware "Steam-it"

Steam-It is the revolutionary new mode of cooking that a lot of households in India is taking up, up on their kitchen cell. Tupperware recognizes the value of quality and health, and in order to promote healthy eating through "steaming food", the popular household brand takes the tradition further with "Steam-It".

I was looking for a bamboo steamer from quite sometime. So when Tupperware asked me if I like to check their "steam -it", it was as if the brand read my mind. Such a connect! I was little apprehensive in the beginning. Cause I was brought up to notion that Bamboo steamers are the best. Well, I kept my apprehensions to a hollow corner and tried this one.

The Proof Of Pudding Is In Eating

Steam-it can be used for multiple purposes including making dumpling, steaming veg and other assorted steam based cooking. I wanted to keep it simple and churned out few vegetable dumplings using the same.

Making Veg Dumplings aka MOMOS using Steam-It

Ingredients & Recipe

Dough

Take 2 cups of Flour [Maida], add 1/2 tsp salt, add water and knead a stiff dough

Filling

You can take assorted veg. Since Momos is primarily Asian [read Chinese- Tibetan] recipe, we used more of Chinese vegetables. Take one cup grated Carrots, grated Cabbage, fine chopped spring onion. Mix it all in a bowl. 

Keep a wok on fire, add 1 tbsp oil and saute grated vegetables till it turn glossy. Now add salt [to taste] 1 Tsp Soya Sauce [optional], 1 tsp chopped garlic, 1/4 tsp Vinegar and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Mix it all.

Now with help of rolling pin, make small- flat, rounds of dough [4"-5"] . Now place the above cooked filling in middle of it carefully. Take little water on your finger and wet the edges. Now softly, slowly and carefully, wrap up/ fold the dumplings carefully, twist and seal it together. Your dumpling is ready for the steam.

Now repeat the process and make few more dumplings.

Steaming

Take any wide utensil of wok. Fill it with water and and allow it to boil for two minutes.

Take the new Tupperware "Steam-it" and carefully place the dumplings on the top and steam it for 10 minutes. Do not forget to cover the steamer with lid for proper steaming.

You can serve the same with Chili sauce.

Well, you can experiment with flour. I am planning to make one with wheat flour and gram flour mixed one soon. You can also do a little more experimentation with the "filling". For eg, to make it healthier and more kids friendly, you can mash up veggies likes beans, some spinach strands, Tofu, dry fruits or so to ensure that your kids [who generally don't like to eat them otherwise] get their dose of nutrition via this delectable looking exotic dish. 

Yes, Tupperware is quite handy to steam vegetables, just before cooking them.

Some do's and don't while using Tupperware Steam-it

1) Do use a wide wok, preferably non stick to maintain proper water level. Do not use a narrow utensil for the same.
