First Hand Experience and Review of MyGlamm Bespoke Beauty Services at Mumbai

I love getting pampered and indulging in beauty treatments. However, going to salon has become quite time-consuming and impersonal. Given the hectic work schedule, every time I plan to visit a salon, I end up canceling it and looking for a reliable beautician who can visit me at home.

Off late, I have called a lot of freelance beauticians who does beauty services at doorstep. however, they come with concerns like-

1) Non hygienic appearances
2) Unkempt Sub standard products
3) Messy way of work [ you boil water for them, get them wash cloth, towel etc]
4) Leaving behind a dirty ambiance

The above factors always demotivated me from calling random beauticians at home. However, given my need and schedule, I still would prefer someone coming home for basic services like threading, waxing etc and, also for SPA.

Why MyGlamm Beauty Services
I love going to SPA but the fear of changing at the unknown locations, scares me, my vanity off. I am too much in  SPA and love to have it at home, as you get the massage at the comfort and privacy of your home and can relax better post the session [read bath at a delayed time or take a nap]. Also, having lived in city of Joy Kolkata wherein you get good masseur didis who will do a good, full hour massage at mere Rs 50 to Rs 100 maximum per session, spoils your choices.

I was having severe body ache and had planned for a SPA from quite sometime. I had visited Four Fountain in Mumbai and as I was contemplating to ring them again, I heard from MyGlamm.

What is MyGlamm- MyGlamm is a bespoke beauty service at your doorstep, which aims to pamper you with on-demand hair, beauty and grooming services by expert artists from the industry at your convenience. My Experience with MyGlamm
Though I wanted to go for a head to toe pampering but given the body pain, I settled for home SPA. Also, when I select a SPA service, the first factor that adds to my decision making is- If it is a cross service or not. I avoid taking spa from the salons that offers cross services. Thankfully for me, MyGlamm did not boasted of a cross service and that made me respect them.

Second thing that I liked was the promptness of service and response. The operations team called me just a day before my appointment to confirm the same along with time. They gave me liberty to select the timings of the SPA and took my address for further confirmation.

I have taken full body spa, deep tissue with varying pressure.

At the scheduled day and time, the salon lady duly arrived at my home carrying a neat bag which included all the necessary linen and products that she required for the service including a mandatory threading kit [just in case a client ask for it]. She promptly asked me for my preferred location for spa and without much ado started the service post my go ahead.

The massage lasted for an hour and in between, she kept on checking for pressure level. The pressure was quite minimal and  the process was quite gentle and considerate. However, given the strong aroma of oil, I had developed a severe headache and wondered if head massage is also included in it. Apparently, the lady understood mt requirement and asked if I would need a hair massage which I promptly agreed.

Post the session, she promptly packed all the disposable sheets and piece of clothing that she carried in a plastic bag for disposal and took leave.

What I liked about the MyGlamm Service that I took-
1) Prompt Scheduling and confirmation, at least a day before service
2) Professional outlook
3) Neat and clean staff
4) Staff bringing the essential disposable stuff and disposing them off promptly

Well that was the good part. Unfortunately, there was few things that I did not like as much and feel they effected the overall experience. They were-

1) Massage was very regular and basic and, not up to the mark. It was less of Spa and more of massage at home by local masseur. Nothing luxurious about it.
2) Inappropriate oil used- The team said that they will be using oil from Forrest essential but the masseur carried some strong-smelling Jasmine oil in normal bottles. While I agree, it may be supply from the bulk bottle but the oil was so strong that I was left with bad headache for next 2 days.
3)  Price- Service non parity- I found it rather inexpensive as compared to home services and even in salon services.

Overall Experience: While the team has taken good care of operational and other aspect. I was not too happy with the massage. I did felt a little relieved during the massage but towards the end of it, I was left with severe headache. You call it choice of oil or whatever, at the price given, I expected something better. Except for the fact that salon personnel [who was quite cooperative, unassuming and friendly] carried some disposable stuff, there wasn't any thing that could have separated the concept from ordinary to superlative.

The oil when applied was quite thick but it absorbed within 30 minutes of massage. Normally a good oil, given that kind of quantity applied takes a lot of time to clear off. I would not have mind if the lady would have given me hot towel therapy which aides to body spa.

Haute Kutir Verdict- I loved the overall concept, operations and experience thus far. However, the spa as service did not work for me. I would definitely like to experience other services from MyGlamm to form my opinion and SPA may not be one of them though.  I will share more features about MyGlamm and further experience next time, hoping that my next service will be better.. Till then, go ahead and give it a try.

Do not forget to share your views with us.

Ciao,

Go Jewelry Snacking with Real Jewelry on Rent and Sale with Eves24, Mumbai

Life is too short for wearing boring jewelry

In one of our previous post, we talked about Elizabeth Taylor Jewelry Syndrome that is common to all the women across the world. And why should not it be? After all, jewelry is such a beauty, intricate stuff. I call them a poem, an artistic impression crafted in an accessory.

Buying Jewelry in India
India is the land of Kohinoor and precious metals. It is a breeding place for beautiful artisans and designs across the world. Whether it is a wedding, childbirth, birthday, anniversary or any function, jewelry is synonymous with beauty and gifting. Who does not love jewelry? People not just love wearing them but consider it as one of the most popular forms of investment. I have often seen women talking about "investing their money" in jewelry. Really? Well while I do subscribe to that idea but partially. I buy jewelry so that I can wear them. Unlike flowers and artificial ornaments, they do have a "return on investment" value attached to them but that is not what they are cared for. If I have to invest, I would rather buy Gold blocks.

Buying jewelry for investment is a passe, so is confining yourselves to same monotonous jewelry that you got for a wedding or any other occasion is. After all, we women do not like to repeat our dress as often, then why should we repeat our jewelry?

Affordable Jewelry At your doorstep
Oh, I can understand that given the surge in prizes, it is not possible for everyone to buy as many real jewelry as many clothes that they buy. Besides, the trend and pattern changes quite often and managing them is quite cumbersome and risky as well. What if I suggest to you that do not buy jewelry but still wear the latest design as and when you want at minimal costing and simple process?

Umm a lot of you will ask- how? Some of you will nod suggesting the jeweler who rents pout artificial jewelry that looks grand for weddings. Ah! You spent lakhs of Rs on decor and dressing for a wedding, only to wear artificial jewelry? Well cynicism notwithstanding, I have observed these facts about Indian Diaspora-

1) we hardly wear our rich, heavy "wedding jewelry" other than the wedding day
2) We hate to repeat our jewelry

What if I say that you can flaunt your jewelry without investing in it?

Jewelry on rent
Off late, jewelry rentals have become quite popular. popular they may be, they are as cliche. For you can easily spot a bride wearing an artificial "Jodha Akbar" set for her wedding.  What if I tell you-
1) You can wear and flaunt real, latest trend jewelry as and when you can without spending a bomb?
2) You can rent "real" jewelry online?

If you are following me on Instagram, you would have seen some of the real images that I shot and posted. Do you recall these-

Women, Do you have the Elizabeth Taylor Jewelry Syndrome?

“Jewelry, I'm telling you. It's a thing. And love. And maybe danger.”

American British Actor and Fashion Goddess Elizabeth Taylor loved her jewelry. She was the poster child for gem love, who had a collection worth over 150 million that she acquired from her various husbands and self-purchases. Sh took "diamonds are a girl's friend" too much to her heart that gave birth to a new syndrome viz- Elizabeth Taylor Jewelry Syndrome.

Elizabeth Taylor Jewelry Syndrome
Yes, you read me write. While I knew Liz'z love for jewelry, I have recently come across this term. In simple words, when you cannot tear your eyes and mind off the engagement rings pictures on your feed, you are diagnosed with Elizabeth Taylor Jewelry Syndrome.

Here are few quotes that went viral immensely popular according to the beautiful legend Elizabeth Taylor's love for jewelry-

Her collection grew with her wealth, fame and via her romantic conquests, something that she never hid from the world. Like I said she reportedly owned 150 mn dollar worth jewelry including 33.19 carat Krupp diamond and 69.42-carat pear-shaped Taylor Burton Diamond [A gift from her husband Richard Burton]. It's not just that diamonds were her best friend, she also owned Le Peregrina pearl, one of the most famous pears shaped, largest pearl in the world. Her passion for jewelry reflects in her book titled- My Love Affair with Jewelry.

Her beautiful collection of jewelry charmed one and all over the years, including Internet celebrity Kim Kardashian who spent 64k on jade bangles/bracelets that belonged to Liz Taylor.

Haute Kutir and Jewelry
Elizabeth Taylor was an iconic personality. And Jewelry love is not just about Elizabeth Taylor or Kim Kardashian. Jewelry is something that every women and girl loves. There is barely any woman who can turn away a sight of glittering necklaces, dangling earrings and big baubles.

You can call it materials\ism or appreciation of beauty. I call it Venus Syndrome in every woman.

Given your love, query and response to our jewelry features on Instagram and Twitter updates, we are motivated to start a new segment on this blog- Haute Jewelry.

Bloggers Meet with Vinod Cookware at Out of Blue, Mumbai

“Jo bhi ho khana, Vinod mein hi pakana”

Many of you may recall this jingle. It was one of those catchy tunes that were often heard on national TV during the matinee time. I remember this ad jingle but could not try their products though. So when Vinod Cookware invited me for a first-ever bloggers meet in Mumbai with fellow food bloggers, I could not resist. I was hunting for a new house, which I postponed in the evening and accepted the invite. Besides, I was looking for a new range of nonstick cookware for my kitchen and was unsure of which brand to choose.

The event was scheduled at one of my favorite places- Out of Blue in Bandra.

As I reached the place, I found it buzzing with bloggers across Mumbai. While most of the attendees were hard-core food bloggers, there were some who were lifestyle bloggers too and that made an interesting mix. After all, cooking is not blogger specific and every household needs a cookware range that they can rely on.

About Vinod cookware- Vinod Cookware established in 1986, manifested the launch of ‘Sandwich bottom’ in the history of Indian kitchens. Today, after a decade of experience and a repertoire of over 400 products spread across multiple categories, Vinod Cookware is one of the most preferred names in Indian as well as global markets. With a complete understanding of Indian kitchens and using premium quality stainless steel, Vinod Cookware builds an instant connection with homemakers of all ages. The company’s insistence on research and development gets its products the edge of convenience and durability.

#VinodBloggersmeet
The event kick-started with a brief presentation about the different product range from the brand. The brand does not believe in just talking but in demonstrating too. Hence they have painstakingly bought and showcased products from their different range, creating touch and feel experience for bloggers.

The products looked sturdy and well endowed. I, in particular, liked the "insect repellent cooktop" and the "Thermal Technology" that prevents food from sticking at the bottom...It is absolute wow. Especially for people like me who like to cook in low oil and like a little crispy taste.

The range they introduced- Black pearl, Tri-ply, and Zest Inducto.

post the brand feature and presentation, they took us out for a large group selfie. It was a herculean task but they managed to click bloggers in one frame. The event was concluded with a detailed luncheon at Out of Blue. The team ensured that food and drinks kept on flowing to different bloggers' table. We were treated with some feisty sizzles, pasta, and make my day- hot chocolate Brownie.

The Vinod hospitality did not stop there and they presented every blogger with a beautiful gift-set from their pearl range that included a non-stick griddle, Tawa, and a shallow fry pan. Whoa! I can not wait to try them.

Haute Kutir Verdict: In a world full of counterfeit products and services, and even confusing names in the cookware category, Vinod cookware is a good relief. Notably, Vinod Cookware is a debt-free company, with strong reserves, which enables it to expand organically and inorganically.
The hard anodized cookware from the Black pearl range looked sturdy, sleek, and stylish to add a zing to your kitchen.

Know more about their other product range on website: www.vinodcookware.com

A Quick 5 Tips Guide on Tooth Care & Owning a Million Dollar Smile

This article has been brought to you with the support of GSK Consumer Healthcare. However, the views expressed in this article are the author's own and do not necessarily reflect the view of GSK Consumer Healthcare
_______________________________________________________

Holla Friends,

You know, first impressions last forever. Creating a first impression is quite simple. Apart from focusing on a well-groomed look and pleasant body language, all you need is- a good smile.

Yes, a smile takes things a mile ahead. A pleasant smile serves not just as a good ice breaker but helps in creating lasting impressions. So smile and keep smiling often. Not only it is a good personality trait but also adds to your face value.

What makes a good smile?

Well, different people have different smiles. Some smile with their mouth wide open, some have pursed lip smiles. Some people smile displaying their whole dentition, some smile ear to ear and then there are those who smile as if they are being charged for smiling. Yup, we refer to the latter part as a “quarter/cent smile”.

Having a million Dollar Smile

Often, we associate good personality with a good smile and a good smile with phrase “million dollar smile”. Wonder what it takes to have a million dollar smile? We asked a few people about their idea of #Million Dollar Smile. Some said- beautiful lips, other said- well-shaped jawline.
However, a vital thing that most of our respondents missed was- healthy teeth.

Yes, healthy gums and healthy teeth are quite important for your “million dollar smile”.

Here’s sharing few tips that will not just enhance your smile, but will also help you leave a lasting impression-

1) Proper Oral Care Hygiene: Imagine someone greets you with a smile with green coloured, vegetable laden teeth. Eew! Hence it is imperative to maintain your teeth which include washing your mouth post eating anything, brushing at least twice a day and using a good mouth wash.

2) Sparkling white- The tarter often leads to teeth discoloration and visiting a dentist every month can be an expensive affair. Besides, while there is a debate going on about the “loss of enamel while frequent teeth cleaning”, let us look at some homemade and time-tested methods to keep the teeth white. If you follow proper hygiene, your teeth will be clean and healthy.

3) Chewing Gum: Whoever said chewing gum damages your teeth, must have been talking about the ones with sugar. Sugar-free chewing gums help release saliva into your mouth which acts as a mouth rinse post meal to wash away the bacteria and acids in your mouth caused due to eating.

4) Brush it all- Using a good brush is as important as using a right technique for brushing.
Go for a soft bristled tooth brush and do ensure that you replace your brush at least once in 3 months. While brushing, use a circular motion and remember to brush the backside of your teeth as well.

5) Fluoride rinse: This is very handy for people who suffer from tooth sensitivity. After brushing
your teeth with desensitising toothpaste for sensitivity like Sensodyne, rinse your mouth with fluoride.

Well, those were some quick and easy-to-do tips for having healthy teeth and a “million dollar smile”. Of course, eating smart is important. Do take the sensitivity test [link] and it may help in giving you that million dollar smile we talked about.

So, do follow us on Twitter and Instagram, and leave a comment saying “How would you safeguard your teeth from sensitivity for your million dollar smile”. We would love to hear from you.
3) You can send as many responses as you want

So woohoo..start shooting, we are reading...

Seven Things You Should Avoid for Healthy Skin

We did a feature on Seven Commandments or your Hair in Monsoon wherein we suggested 7 tips for managing hair. The post fetched us some rave reviews and requests from readers alike who wanted us to write more including the skin.

Inspired by love, here's our take on 7 thinks that we should avoid in order to achieve a good Skin. After all, a healthy skin is your best vanity and needs not much makeup. Given the pollution, stress and chemical interjection levels in our lives, we need to take good care of our skin. While there are much substances that is good for our skin, let's take some time to see what is "not good for our skin". Here we go-

1) Smoking - I fail to understand that except for satisfying your alpha dopamine [which can be satiated by drinking water], what is the pleasure one can draw by putting an unhygienic, harmful substance in the mouth and then puffing it off. Well, the answer is "A Myth". People esp women think that smoking is instrumental is "stress busting" and "weight reduction". Holla there are better ways to do that rather than making your precious lungs a soiled mop. Smoking not just badly impact your lungs and throat, it also stains your teeth and lips.

So do a favour to your beautiful mouth, stop smoking.

2) Parabens:
Check out the ingredients list of different cosmetics that you pick for self. Anything that contains Paraben, in any form, is carcinogenic and harmful to your skin. Go for products with natural ingredients. If you are following me on twitter, look out for my beauty tips wherein I suggest different kind of Parabens to avoid.

3) Bleach: Irrespective that how much your Salon lady will suggest you bleach your face in order to get a better facial quality, resist facial bleaches as much unless it becomes mandatory. Bleaches though were never mandatory and were used only to lighten the facial hair. Yes, bleaches do not make you fair, it just helps in lighten up the facial hair on your face to bring the impact. Bleachers are in fact quite harmful to your skin and burns the upper dermal layers due to excessive usage. Instead, go for natural whitening products like tomato pulp, sour curd with gramme flour and other DIY home masks.

4) Products with High SPF- Use sunscreen if you may but preference should be given to the medicated ones with moderate SPF than the cosmetics with higher preference. I generally avoid using sunscreen and multiple uses is a strict no- no for me. Reapply you must but do clean your face from the grime and dust before re-application.

5) Sleeping with makeup- Makeup forms an artificial layer over your skin and hence not allowing to breath freely. While you need to choose your makeup brand carefully [read point 2], still you need to exercise the minimal use and makeup removal when not necessary. No matter how tired you are, you should wipe out the makeup before hitting the bed. And no, washing is not a solution. One of the best ways to remove makeup is to wipe it, using cleansing milk on cotton or washcloth.

6) Random Sleeping Habits- There is an adage- Early to bed, early to rise makes men healthy, wealthy and wise. While I do not know about wealthy but am sure about healthy and hence consider it as a wise option. We do not realise that our skin goes through damage throughout the day and recuperate through the same between 10:00 pm to 1:00 am during the sleep. Hence, it is very important to stick to the sleep schedule. As it does not just help your skin to recover the damages caused in day's time but it also boosts your immunity and regularise body cycle, adding the shine on your skin.

7) Soaps on Face- While soaps are a cleansing agent, they are also high on chemicals and can strip off natural oils from your face. No matter how mild a soap is construed or positioned on TV, best is to avoid using soaps on your face. You can either go for a good foam based face cleanser or use Gram flour with milk or water to clean your face. I have initially used Dove white soap on my face and the result was good. However, the Gram flour obtain may sound tedious but the impact is the natural and long term. Add a little turmeric paste with milk to bring that glow which even chemical laden face washes or expensive facials cannot bring.

Well, those were the top 7 things to avoid. Needless I say, a good diet, adequate water and exercise always come handy. We will come up with more beauty tips, Do's and don'ts..so keep following us on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for more updates.

See ya. Have a Healthy skin

Scented Candles from Ekam for Home Decor and Mood upliftment

Home decor is therapeutic. You need not be a trained interior designer to work upon your home decor. You can bling up a simple decor with bare minimum accessories like I do. yes, I am a fan of "minimalism". I like to keep my home simple, clean and minimally styled. The heavy ornamented looks not just makes the room look busy, bringing maintenance challenges, but they conceal the concept of space. Since we stay in rented apartment and need to change city anytime, there is a little interior investment that we can do. Besides, minimalism rocks!

One of my favorite home decor accessories are- Candles. Candles have not just restricted to lightening but have become a quintessential part of home decor. I love collecting candles and have few from USA and India. Yup candles! They are mini decor statements for your home and given the quality of candles that comes these days, laden with aromatherapy, decorative styles, forms, they leave you aching for more. Besides, they are quite an enhancer when you plan a cozy dinner party at home or just invite friends for house warming or Ghazal nights.

Ekam which was known for home fragrance has recently launched their candles range. They have this whole range on their website. I was looking for pillar candles for my bedroom chest and loved the two candles that they have sent me for the same. Here's a dekko-

I have used pillar candles- one in Fresh Linen and other is Lemon Meringue to brighten up my bedroom with their vibrant colours. This blue and yellow combination looks neat on my brown solid wood drawer.

About the Candles:
This Fresh linen fragrance is a sunny fragrance, smells crisp and fresh just like a clean laundry. This irresistible scent will embrace just like fresh linens from laundry. It promises to enhance your mental and emotional wellbeing. I liked the deep blur color but the fragrance was little too strong for me. I have preserved this crispy fragrance for summer noon.

Lemon Meringue: It is peppy and came in bright yellow. This fragrance is sheer lemon bliss, smells just like a freshly baked pie straight from the oven its a perfect blend of sun ripened lemons, sweet meringue and that warm flaky crust that you may love! The rustic lime green color of the lemon meringue scented pillar candle is so energizing & fresh.

I used these candles on my wedding anniversary to surprise hubby at midnight. They were my perfect companion for last minute surprise and when lighted, they emitted mild fragrance and were quite a good assets for my minimal decor.

Overall, I liked these two candles in terms of form. Reg the fragrance, the fresh linen was little too strong for me but the Meringue works. Ekam has quite a variety of candles includes cool water and lotus in their pillar range, which I may try soon.

The Pillar candle son Ekamonline comes at the range of Rs 195 to Rs 360 depending upon the size.

Will I try them again? Maybe yes, maybe an assortment of fragrances for different moods and occasions.

Till then, keep reading Haute Kutir

Beauty's Seven Commandments for your Hair this Monsoon

Hair Problems in Monsoon Season

It is monsoon and there goes all your hair, ka-za-kazoo-bazoom...Never mind, what it means. What matters is how do you take care of your beautiful mane in this season that is full of frizz, moist and dryness.

So gals, this is not your "how I met my hair" Season 10 episode no XYZ" and hence get to the point. Point is, your hair is indeed your precious asset. Something that you realize soon after it turns in bad shape or starts falling. While you may find 1001 references on internet for what do on your hairs and whatnot along with all Blah Blahs of the world, let me share some of my "tried and tested" Tips for your hair, scalp, root, and tips.

If they work for you, give me a holla and spread a word, if they do not, let's talk individually to see if I have something to offer. Before that, tips please-

1) OCC Ritual- This tip may be done to death but is highly relevant and important. No matter how busy and demanding your schedule is, do follow the OCC regime i.e. Oiling, Cleaning, and Conditioning. It always helps. Use a good shampoo [brands do not matter, the chemical composition does] and complete it with a little help from a conditioner. "Moderation" is the key. You can check Schwarzkopf BonacureHimalayaL'Oreal Oil and Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition reviews on my blog. Reviews for Pantene, TiGi may come soon. Suit yourself.

2) Manage your Frizz- In the monsoon season, due to moist and humidity in the air, your hair tends to develop frizz esp on your crown. You can manage this by using oil and shampoo in moderation [little quantity] and avoid backcombing your hair. I use Tony and Guy Frizz control conditioner for my lengths.

3) Towel Dry more, Blow-dry less- Aye it is your hair and not the "chicken Tandoori Tikka". So be careful when you use electric stuff like a Blow dryer, Hair Iron, Hair straightener, hair styler or so on. They do much damage to your hair shafts and follicles that you may imagine. repeat usages just add to jeopardy. I know hair is your crowning glory and you need to look good. So try to look good naturally and give your hair breathing space. The upcoming point goes all the way to give you another reason why not to use hair stylers as much.

4) Least Artificial Interference: Okay so no matter how big that brand is global, a chemical is a chemical and unless you really "need" it, stay away from all artificial "volumizer" or this and that during the season. Use you may but use occasionally and do wash your hair post usage. Besides, when you style your hair with electronic devices, you end up adding artificial products and serums on your hair and scalp for heat protection or styling.

5) Hair Length Management: After business management, I learned hair length management due to incessant office politics and stress resulting in hair fall. To cut the story short, if you have any of protein or Vitamin D deficiency and may be low hemoglobin or Folic acid in the body, I would suggest that you trim your hair a little short. This may not be scientifically tested or proven but IMHO, when you are running through deficiencies, the longer hair pulls more of nourishment that could have gone to your scalp. In such times, it is the better idea to leave your idea for growing your hair longer for some time aside and go snip happy. It is "Ghar ki kheti" [homegrown] and will grow sooner or later. So do not worry about length and concentrate on breadth [scalp]

6) Cover your hair while traveling: The day makes look less sunny and devoid of dust. However, do tie up or cover them inside a neat bandanna while you are traveling in an open window vehicle or two-wheelers. You can check my video on what happens to hair while being on the great Indian Autorickshaw ride.

7) Watch your diet- You should have a well-balanced diet. While doctors advise avoiding green leafy vegetables in monsoon, you can substantiate it with more beans, legumes and fresh juices. I am a supporter of Vegetarianism and pity all theories that may say vegetarian has less nutritious options.Boo.Eat healthily and avoid excessive dieting as it may affect your hair in the long term

Well, that was top 7 tips for managing your hair this monsoon. Needless to say, avoid stress including using electric styling products on your hair. You may not realize but every little stress that you put yourselves into like lovers tiff, friends acting unfriendly on social media [lolz], Alexa rank not moving up and so more, adds up to stress and affect your body and mind non-productively. Keep yourself, de-stressed. Alternatively, you can treat yourself to my other blog- Numerounity and get some dose of humor and respite :)

So, readers, those were the tips that I curated for you. If it benefits you/ you like them, do show your love and spread the word. Follow Haute Kutir on InstagramTwitter & Facebook
